Don’t Let the Dietary Extremists Get You Down – Enjoy Wholesome Foods
OK – I’ve just got to say it – Food is good!!!!!
I just got done reading yet another article about food, and all of its pitfalls. I wondered what would posses someone knowledgeable about nutrition to suggest a “weight loss” diet as appropriate for a person that does not need to lose weight. The author was pointing out some of the pitfalls of some pretty decent foods. It started with the scary things that could happen if you don’t control your blood sugar. (Yes, we talk about those things here. I hope that we help you to strategize, rather than contribute to anxiety.) Then she proposed a diet that was quite inadequate for the average person. It would have been a great diet for someone who needed to lose weight at a slow to moderate pace; and, it was well-rounded nutritionally. But, it was not realistic for a regular, healthy diet. I fear that many people following such a diet would put their minds into a depressive mode because of the lack of neuro nutrients.
The truth is food is a fantastic and amazing contraption. It powers this remarkable body that we have. It miraculously delivers the fuel that your mind and muscles need – a lot of it from carbohydrates. It brings all sorts of other nutrients, chemicals and building blocks that we need into our bodies in phenomenally effective structures. It really is marvelous.
I realize that poor food choices can really harm people. That is obvious in the year 2012. Nevertheless, food is labeled a villain to much. It’s great stuff.
So, I made a list of food that is wonderfully nutritious and pretty tasty too. Here it is. I am not concerned if you don’t care for today’s blog post so much. What I do hope is that you will enjoy some of these delicious foods:
- Strawberries
- Edamame
- Sweet potatoes
- Black beans
- Pinto beans
- Curry
- Tomatoes – If you don’t like tomatoes, you might be OK with salsa.
- Peaches
- Grapes
- Pineapple
- Grapefruit
- Salad
- Whole wheat – Have you tried cracked wheat cereal lately?
- Almonds
- Cucumbers
- Mushrooms
- Green beans – especially from the garden or produce department, instead of the can
- Bell peppers
- Garlic
- Green onions
- Shallots
- Pears
- Turkey
- Oates
- Basil
Your list will not agree with my list. You may despise my list. You will notice that almost all of these items are fruits, vegetables, and legumes (fancy name for the bean family). Almost anyone could enjoy quite a bit of these foods without endangering their health. So, the truth is that you may not agree with my list. But you should be able to make a pretty great one on your own.
Enjoy food. Enjoy healthy food!
